Spring–Summer 2020 (Hammock)

2020

The artist and his partner (j and e, respectively) hitch up a pair of hammocks above a lush path in late spring sunlight. The colorful corner of the world they inhabit was painted by David Hockney, whose soft summer afternoon shadows gently remind the viewer that every beautiful thing must end. Late Spring Tunnel, May 2006 is a deceptive diptych, splitting right down the middle; the postcard was conceived as a token of farewell at the end of j and e's summer together, when they returned to school on opposite coasts.
